Digital technology is set to dominate at print and publishing exhibition Ipex 2010, the show’s organisers revealed at a media summit this morning.

Event director Trevor Crawford told delegates at the event at ExCel in London’s Docklands that digital had been the biggest area of growth for the show, while the squeezes had “mainly been in the litho space”.

According to Crawford, digital will account for 38% of the 100,000sqm footprint of the show that will be held at the NEC in Birmingham on 18-25 May.

HP will be the largest exhibitor, followed by Heidelberg and Xerox.

Crawford said that there was “an air of optimism” in the market, but admitted that the show had shrunk by 15% since its last outing in 2006.

The organisers are nonetheless expecting exhibitors to continue with the tradition of previous Ipex shows and bring equipment to exhibit on their stands.

“We’ve got people racing to us for early access because they want to bring equipment to the show,” said Crawford.

Ipex has introduced a number of initiatives to help exhibitors during the difficult economic climate, such as its recession buster scheme, which helps with everything from getting reductions on stand rigging through to budget accommodation options.

The show will overlap with packaging exhibition Total that will be held at the NEC from the 25-27 May.
