WINNER

Scotch Malt Whisky Society: 25th anniversary bottle
The distinctive new-look bottle to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society caught the judges’ eye, netting the Scottish firm top honours in the tightly fought glass packaging category.

Among the bottle’s unique features are its bespoke shape, with a high punt and masculine form, and the location of the tasting notes on the front label, as opposed to the back, where this information is often found on whisky packs.

While the bottle has a modern look designed to broaden the drink’s appeal, the firm was also keen to emphasise the brand’s heritage, and so an image of the Leith vaults, where the society originated, has been used.

The judges loved the look and feel of the bottle, which they described as “stylish, elegant and with a strong presence”. “The very simple printing says ‘less is more’. Keeping it simple pays off,” said one.

HIGHLY COMMENDED

Allied Glass Containers: Bloom
“A very clean, elegant design that works well”, is how one judge described Allied Glass Containers’ bottle for Bloom. The tall, sleek design, which is jointly produced with G&J Greenall, features intricate embossing to accentuate the feminine and natural character of the product while, at the same time, emphasising its quality. The typography connects with the overall design of the countryside and the artwork depicts vines winding up the bottle’s neck. All in all, a “beautiful bottle”.

Seaways Services UK: Love Limited Edition
Showing how packaging can create something that is “a bit special for those who love luxury”, Seaways Services’ bottle for Love Limited Edition water convinced the judges it was worthy of a commendation.  Individually hand-crafted bottles with exquisite Swarowski Crystal made each product a one-off and the judges praised this unique brand-building. As one said: “It’s completely indulgent, completely bling!”
