Timestrip: Truly Unique – Cargo cosmetics and Timestrip technology integration
Gloopy make-up is made a thing of the past through the application of Timestrip technology to Cargo’s range of lip glosses. The Timestrip Plus is activated when the wand is removed from the gloss tube and consumers can see from the panel how long the pack has been open. Timestrip technology is not new, of course, but Cargo gave Timestrip two distinct challenges: to create a nine-month room temperature label, and do so in much smaller dimensions than the traditional Timestrip. The resulting 16x30mm label proved a hit with our judges. As one noted: “A very good solution to solve the best-by date issue.” Another, perhaps a lip gloss fan, noted that it was “much needed”. Following this success, Timestrip is now turning its attention to creating a 12-month ambient product as well – perhaps a contender for the 2010 awards.

DS Smith Packaging Rawcliffe: JCB bag-in-box oil pack
Bag-in-box packaging has traditionally been the realm of wine, but DSSP Rawcliffe cleverly harnessed the technology to dramatically improve the supply-chain issues facing transporting oil in plastic drums. Moving the product into these packs has not only improved vehicle utilisation by 20%, but also the outer pack is 98% recyclable and can be disposed of through normal recycling waste streams. As one judge pointed out: “a great application of technology to meet the needs of today’s market”.
