WINNER

Staeger Clear Packaging
“A ground-breaking business with a clear focus and commitment to service,” is just one of the plaudits for Staeger Clear Packaging, which takes home this year’s top accolade after being highly commended last year.

Since its acquisition by Switzerland’s Staeger Group, the Coventry-based rigid plastic carton manufacturer has gone from strength to strength. The judges were particularly impressed by the firm’s financial performance in the face of a tide of anti-plastics public opinion, soaring raw material costs and the difficult economic situation. The firm’s turnover has more than doubled in the past five years, and Staeger continues to invest in new facilities and search for new markets with China, in particular, in its sights.

“Staeger continues its excellent performance and should be congratulated for its impressive use of recycled PET,” one of the judges commented.

The environment continues to be an important factor and recycled material has gone from zero to 80% of Staeger’s turnover in the past two years, supplying major retailers and FMCG products. As the judges said: “The passion for what they do is an attribute of the whole team. A worthy winner.”

HIGHLY COMMENDED

Benson Group
Last year’s winner Benson Group was highly commended in recognition of the printed carton supplier’s sustained good performance. “Both in customer satisfaction and financially, Benson’s success is thoroughly deserved,” said one judge.

Curtis Print & Packaging
A second commendation goes to UK Packaging Awards newcomer Curtis Print & Packaging. The Wimbledon carton printer’s success comes from efficient service and an enthusiasm to push the boundaries of conventional packaging by, according to one judge, “doing the difficult”.
