Inspirepac: Walkers Sensations Retail Ready Shelf and Display Unit
Breaking the stranglehold of DS Smith and Smurfit Kappa, who accounted for all of the finalists last year in this hotly contested category, Inspirepac just pipped DS Smith’s Louth site to this year’s top prize, thanks to an entry hailed by judges for its construction and print quality.

The design by Chesterfield-based Inspirepac replaces a standard 0201 box to improve performance, palletisation, appearance and functionality.

One judge said the pack showed “how a well-thought-through design can deliver efficiency throughout the supply chain”.

The top transit section of the pack can be removed from the main box in one motion using an ‘easy tear’ perforation. The cases are put straight onto store shelves and transform into a display pack, with the front lip holding the product in place and allowing product branding to be clearly displayed.

The case holds 24 40g bags of crisps, and 10 cases can be held in a standard pallet layer. Inspirepac’s design has also eliminated the need for tape, and the pack includes its own stacking mechanism – several can be stacked together by using pull-out tabs and locks.

HIGHLY COMMENDED

DS Smith Packaging Louth: Bernard Matthews Farms Deli Range RRP
A very close second, DS Smith Louth’s Deli Range RRP for Bernard Matthews Farms was hailed by one of our judges as a “great example of sound, strategic thinking”. The relaunch features single- and double-facing, hand-erect and machine-erect packs.

DS Smith Louth has moved from litho-laminate to flexo printing, reducing the environmental impact of the packs, and the single-flute corrugated fibreboard is made with 75% recycled material and is fully recyclable. The firm also removed perforations from the front display area to provide a cleaner appearance.
