DS Smith Speciality Packaging Launceston: Goodness Foods Organic Transit Box
Another triumph for DS Smith in this category, if not quite last year’s clean sweep of first place and all the finalist spots, and a second win for the Goodness Foods Organic Transit Box.

DS Smith’s Speciality Packaging site in Launceston, Cornwall, was the clear winner of the Supply Chain Solution award, taking the prize secured last year by the group’s Chesterfield plant and picking up some rare reviews in the process – one judge said the Goodness Foods pack delivered “on all supply chain levels”.

The corrugated pack is designed to deliver Goodness Foods’ fresh or frozen natural and organic produce to the trade or directly to the home. The base is leak proof and uses dry ice for chilling, allowing a 72-hour delivery window.

In addition, the corrugated case with locking lid requires no strapping, against two metres for each polystyrene box previously used by the customer, and is recyclable with 96% recoverable fibre content.

Smurfit Kappa Abercarn (XXL): Abacus Lighting
Abacus Lighting had a big problem: 75% of orders it dispatched in January and February suffered damage in transit, resulting in write-offs of more than £600 per order. The results since the introduction in March of new packaging from Smurfit Kappa Abercarn have been astonishing – no damaged orders thanks to a “perfect” packaging concept that eliminates impact and vibration damage by creating air spaces around fragile areas. The new pack, with three components, is also almost 60% lighter than its predecessor. One of our judges described the pack as a “great structural solution”.

Asda Stores: Asda Palletainer
A “simple yet effective” transit packaging solution, according to one judge, the Palletainer offers a 30% reduction in corrugated board use compared to alternatives. The pack is made of double-wall, B/C flute recyclable corrugated, and enables Asda to use lighter retail-ready packs.
