BP Labels awarded FSC certification
Cardiff-based BP Labels has achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification from the Rainforest Alliance.
BP Labels became the fourth label printer in the UK to achieve the accreditation after successfully completing an audit of its quality management, outsourcing arrangements, material storage and production control.
Forest certification is a voluntary system aimed at promoting sustainable forest management in commercial forests, taking into account the environmental, economic and social aspects of forestry in a balanced way.
Keith Postle, operations director at BP Labels, said: "This exercise taught us a lot about putting together truly unique material constructions. It means that we can now offer our customers FSC certified materials that can be tailored to suit their own specific environments and help them make their packaging greener."
Postle added that the company is now looking at other ways of improving the environmental footprint of its labels, such as the backing paper, the ink and the adhesive.
The company has also announced that it is to extend its factory by 465sq m and install an eight-colour fully servo driven Nilpeter FA-4 press.
BP Labels' clients include Waitrose, Boots and Coty.
