Kraft Foods is suing a Mexican firm for copying the packaging of its Chips Ahoy cookies range, according to US media reports.

Kraft’s Nabisco division produces the Chips Ahoy range and the complaint is against Interamerican Foods Corporation (IFC), which is part of Mexican firm Grupo la Moderna, the Daily Herald reported.

The newspaper continued that Kraft’s complaint said that IFC’s product used virtually the same blue colour, reproduced many of the Chips Ahoy design features and would confuse customers.

La Moderna is said to have acknowledged the unauthorised use of the packaging design, but the products continue to be sold in the US by IFC.

Chicagobreakingbusiness.com said Kraft wanted the firm to stop using the packaging and that it was is also seeking damages.

Kraft declined to comment when contacted by Packaging News.
