Nestlé opens 1m IPS First co-packing plantJosh Brooks, 21 July 2009Be the first to comment on this article York MP Hugh Bayley was on hand to officially open Nestlé York’s new 1m co-packing facility, 12 months after the wheels of the project were put in motion. A total of 100 jobs were created by the new facility, which will provide co-packing for Nestlé’s brands such as Aero and KitKat. IPS First, Nestlé’s favoured co-packer, will manage the site, which is located next door to Nestlé’s distribution centre for the north of the UK. Although the official launch of the plant took place last Friday, production at the plant commenced on 1 June. Bayley was instrumental in helping IPS First attain the loan guarantee, under the government’s Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme, that financed the project. The money has been used to convert a former warehouse on the Nestlé site into the co-packing facility, which shares equipment with its sister IPS site in Featherstone. It has been estimated that the new facility will reduce Nestlé’s annual carbon emissions by 300,000 tonnes. “It’s extremely good news, especially in difficult economic times, to see a company investing in new jobs,” said Bayley.
