Portola is targeting the food and drinks industries with the launch of two closures, which it unveiled at this week’s easyFairs event at the NEC.

The Yorkshire-based company showed visitors the EasyFlip closure, which is aimed at the sports drinks market and the Verso 63mm range of closures aimed at the food market.

Portola claimed that the EasyFlip is one of the lightest drinks closures on the market and is pitching it as a replacement for traditional push-pull sports drink closures. It includes an integral tamper-evident feature and has no plastic parts that require disposal upon opening.

The Verso 63mm closures come in five variants that all use the same production tool. They are designed to be used with PET jars for packaging food. The closures can be branded at a lower cost than other closures using de-embossing, which reduces the need for inks and solvents.

Portola demonstrated the new closures, as well as others from its portfoilio, at stand number 684 at easyFairs, which took place at Birmingham’s NEC yesterday and the day before (24 and 25 February).

Portola was recently awarded ISO 14001 environmental accreditation for its efforts to reduce waste and energy use and to maximise its reuse and recycling of raw materials.
