BPI prices to reflect costs of more expensive polymers

British Polythene Industries (BPI), the polythene producer, is to stop using published LDPE price indices when negotiating sale prices for products which contain more expensive polymers.

The company said traditionally accepted LDPE references do not reflect the cost of the more expensive polymer materials used in the production of thinner film products.

John Langlands, chief executive of BPI, said: “The more complex polymers used in these blends involve a different manufacturing cost structure for us. As such we cannot provide these products using standard LDPE price references.

“Our commercial teams will communicate directly with our customer base on the revised sales price agreements,” he added.
