Nampak Heathcare has invested 1m in the UK’s first print quality scanning system from Komori for the former Storey Evans site in Bradford.

The print quality assurance sheetfed (PQAS) system is being used on the Komori S40 press that was installed last year and is designed to give Nampak’s customers complete control over the quality of their products.

An inspection camera monitors the cartons in real time as they are printed. Steve Turner, Komori UK general sales manager for sheetfed products, said it was a pre-requisite that pharmaceutical packaging is in perfect condition at the point of sale.

“Installing the PQAS system on the S40 press enables every carton to be automatically inspected in-line, even when the press is running at full speed,” he said.

The former Storey Evans facility became part of the Nampak Group in 2008 and has since increased turnover by more than a third, created new jobs and invested in new equipment.

Gerard Harford, Nampak Healthcare UK regional director, described the PQAS investment as an illustration of its commitment to the sector. “Becoming part of the Nampak Group has enabled investment in state-of-the-art technology, putting us at the forefront of our marketplace.”

Nampak manufactures a wide range of products for the pharmaceuticals sector, including cartons, leaflets, self-adhesive labels and printed foils used in blister packs
