Cartoners push forest care plan

Be the first to comment on this article

Beverage carton manufacturers are being urged to sign up to a scheme that aims to support sustainable forestry practices across the globe.

Tetra Pak, SIG Combibloc and Elopak want other firms in the sector to join them in the commitment to improving forest governance.

The trio signed up in July to the voluntary initiative, which commits them to achieving 100% traceability of all wood used in carton manufacture within the next 10 years.

Currently, only 75% of the 2m tonnes of paperboard used each year to produce beverage cartons is from renewable, traceable forestry sources.

The firms together account for 80% of the global beverage carton market.
