Chevler Packaging is to close its cartonboard operations after failing to find a buyer for the division.

The company is to sell its headquarters and the Princes Risborough premises that house its cartonboard business, which specialises in bakery packaging.

Chevler took the decision in early February following extensive consolidation in the cartonboard sector.

Managing director Susan Welsh said: “It has been a choice that’s been taken out of our hands.”

Chevler will now focus on its plastics and crimp-case manufacturing operations, based in Bristol and Hengoed, South Wales.

The company suffered a pre-tax loss of £531,251 for the year ending 30 June 2005, on sales of £14.8m, compared with a £130,538 loss on sales of £15.8m a year earlier.
