Packaging giant Mondi has announced a Europe-wide price increase of EUR100 (83.49) per tonne for all sack kraft paper grades, which will take effect from 1 August.

Mondi, among other paper suppliers, has already hiked prices several times this year.

Confy Josefsson, Mondi marketing director for kraft paper, said: “Although prices have risen several times this year, the announced increase will only return prices back to the level seen in the beginning of 2008.”

He added that further price increases may be implemented towards the end of this year to “compensate for the steep increases in raw material costs”.

In April, Finnish board producer M-real announced a price increase for its kraftliner grades of £50 per tonne, which took effect from the beginning of this month (June). The announcement came just three months after its last increase.
