Impress picks Creasteel for microwaveable metal packsstevenkiernan, 9 October 2007Be the first to comment on this article Impress, the Dutch producer of metal packaging, has used Arcelor Packaging International’s Creasteel material for a new range of microwaveable metal packaging.
Deventer-based Impress worked with the Parisian design house Alpha Centauri and steelmaker ArcelorMittal on the prototype containers. The company has created a 650ml triangular-shaped concept container with a direct heat seal along with a 450ml round design closed either by a direct heat seal or a 153mm diameter Easy Peel end. It chose to use a shallow design with a large open surface area in response to the study 'Microwaveability of steel and aluminium packaging'. Thomas Pfeiffer, who led the investigation, concluded that the use of "shallow and wide open metal containers" in microwaves was "perfectly viable". Impress is currently showing the prototypes to customers. Speak Your Mind |

Creasteel, which was originally launched by Arcelor in 2004, was chosen for the prototypes because of its high-draw qualities, which enable the creation of novel shapes.
