German polyester fibre specialist Trevira has clinched the licence to manufacture Natureworks’ Ingeo biopolymer in Europe.

Biopolymer Ingeo is made from renewable plant materials emitting less greenhouse gases and requiring less energy to produce compared to oil-based products.

The tie-up expands US-based Natureworks’ presence in Europe.

“Expanding our portfolio of product offerings is both a growth strategy and the next step in our company’s sustainability journey,” said Trevira director of sales and marketing for staple fibres, Günter Wittmann.

“Because of its technical expertise, exemplary reputation, capability to shorten time-to-market for custom products and range of products, Trevira is the ideal company to provide Ingeo,” added Natureworks European business manager for fibres and non-wovens, Eammon Tighe.

Tighe said that over the last 18 months there has been significant interest in Europe for low-carbon footprint fibres and non-woven materials for household, technical textiles and personal care sectors.
