Corus pays more for steel delivered to recycling centres

Corus has announced a £50 increase in the amount it pays for steel cans delivered to its CanRoute collection centres, the second monthly rise in succession.

The value of steel cans is now £235 per tonne, benefiting all local authorities, waste management and collection companies that sell collected steel packaging through the CanRoute network of 14 national regional centres.

The increase, which will be backdated to 5 May 2008, reflects growing global demand for scrap steel.

The CanRoute centres are operated by steel processing companies who receive, quality check, store and bale steel cans before delivering them to Corus in the correct form for them to be recycled at one of Corus' steel reprocessing centres.
