BPF calls for one voice from plastic packaging manufacturers

The British Plastics Federation has called on its members to contact their MPs, as it battles the negative image of plastic packaging in the media.

Speaking at the BPF annual conference last week (15 May), BPF director-general Peter Davis called for a "consolidation of voices" within the plastic packaging industry.

Davis told delegates to contact their local MPs to put forward the plastic industry's side of the argument.

He said plastic packaging is a "national asset", as feeding the UK population of 60.5m, three times a day is "a major task that cannot be achieved without packaging".

According to Davis, 37% of plastics in the UK are used by the packaging industry.

The conference marked the 75th anniversary of the BPF.
