The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has urged the Conservative party to include smaller businesses in its manufacturing summit to be held later this year.

Conservative leader David Cameron agreed that plastics "must be involved" in the summit when questioned by BPF director general Peter Davis on Friday (16 May). No date has been set for the summit.

Davis met with Cameron in his own constituency of Witney, Oxfordshire when he visited injection moulding manufacturer and BPF member Data Plastics on Friday (16 May).

Davis said that smaller companies tend to be very innovative particularly in the packaging sector.

Cameron announced his intention to hold a manufacturing summit in his monthly press conference held on 6 May. He said it would investigate "how to engineer a modern manufacturing revival in this country".
