Innovia adds BOPP to range
Innovia Films is targeting the fresh produce market with the launch of its first biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film, PropaFresh P2G and P2GAF.
The company has developed P2G and P2GAF, which has anti-mist properties, to allow fresh produce to continue to expire after it has been packed.
The non-perforated PropaFresh range allows this moisture to get out of the pack without the need for perforating it.
It has an oxygen permeability of 3,000 (cm³/m² 24 hours) and carbon dioxide permeability of 12,000 (cm³/m² 24 hours).
Innovia's R&D department developed the films, which can be heat sealed on both sides, printed on and made into peelable seals.
The food contact-approved range has been under an exclusive agreement with an unnamed company for the past six months and is now available on the market.
Clare McKeown, Innovia's fresh and chilled foods market manager in Europe, said increasing shelf-life for two to three days is "extremely valuable for producers, retailers and consumers, but also the environment".
