Sirane has landed two bulk orders for 30,000 and 250,000 of its Flower-Fresh floral pouches, which are manufactured using the company’s absorbent Resolve material.

Flower-Fresh was launched by Telford-based Sirane last year and enables flowers to be held in up to 200ml of water in leak-proof bouquets, so that they can be transported by postal delivery or transit to retailers.

Sandra Evans, Sirane’s sales manager who is overseeing the marketing of Flower-Fresh, said that she is in discussions with a further two clients about potential bulk orders.

“The past year has seen us really working with the users and the flower trade to create a compostable and absorbent product that not only gives real functional improvement over alternatives, but that looks terrific as well,” she said.

Sirane is planning to demonstrate Flower-Fresh at its stall at the Fruit Logistica exhibition in Berlin next February, which it hopes will generate international orders.

Flower-Fresh is available in compostable and non-compostable forms. The former will completely biodegrade in nine weeks. The packs are available in a variety of colours, with green the most popular.

“Our intention with this work is to make Flower-Fresh the mainstream international packaging item that it deserves to be, with growers, retailers and consumers,” Evans added.

“At the time of launch, we saw a clear need in the international flower business for an environmentally friendly, absorbent pouch to keep cut flowers fresher for longer.”

Sirane Resolve is compliant with compostable standard EN 13432 and is made without adhesives or bonding materials.

According to Sirane, Flower-Fresh has come to the attention of the mainstream media and is set to feature in a number of gardening television programmes in 2010.
