Paragon Flexibles hopes to make a big a name for itself in the flexible films sector with the acquisition of a new press which it calls the first of its kind in the UK.

The Windmöller & Hölscher 10-colour Miraflex machine is due to be delivered at the firm’s base in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, in November.

The Gainsborough factory currently produces 10m linear metres of film print a month and the £1.8m Miraflex is expected to increase this by 30%. The firm reckons changeover speeds will be around 20% faster.

“It has many features to help us improve on quality and offer faster turnaround speeds,” said a spokesman.

“We chose the kit because of its easy registration and its turboclean systems. The Miraflex is the first of its kind in the UK.”

Managing director Mark Lapping, added: “Product quality and food science differentiate our products. This will help us set a new benchmark for our service.”

Windmöller & Hölscher showed off its new Miraflex sleeve flexo press at Drupa, boasting about its print quality, ease of use, automation and innovation.

It prints on plastic film, paper, aluminium foil and laminates, comes with eight or 10-colour decks, and has printing widths from 1m to 1.45m.

Automated features include sleeve nip rolls and reduced-weight doctor blade chambers. Maximum print repeat length is 500m per minute.
