The Sunde Group, the parent company of expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging firm Sundolitt, is investing 75m in raw material production and manufacturing facilities in Scandinavia.

The Norwegian company is to build a 60,000-tonne-per-year EPS plant in Denmark to help meet growing demand in Europe, and will also open a manufacturing site in Sweden.

A Sundolitt spokesman said the company was also continuing to look for "the right opportunity" to invest in its UK operation.

He added that in company's six years in the UK, it had expanded considerably and that there was still "great potential" for further growth for a range of products, from fish transported in ice to fridges.

Sunde Group produces EPS for the construction and packaging industries at 18 manufacturing plants in six countries, including three UK sites under the Sundolitt name.

• Ineos Nova announced yesterday (5 November) that it would maintain October prices for all polystyrene products sold in November. The company said it "strongly believed" polystyrene would remain a competitive material and would continue to act to sustain long-term productivity.
