BREAKING NEWS – SAICA has today announced construction will go ahead on its 290m paper mill in Manchester, quashing doubts over the project’s future.

The creation of the new paper mill at the Partington Wharfside development will provide up to 200 jobs. A planning application was first lodged in August 2007.

The Spanish-owned group will manufacture approximately 400,000 tonnes of 100% recycled containerboard at the site.

The company plans to install a state of the art 7.5m-wide paper machine at the site to produce the high quality lightweight board.

SAICA has invested over £470m in the UK since 2007 when it acquired International Paper’s packaging business in the UK.

The Spanish company later paid £100m to acquire 19 of SCA’s plants in the UK.
