Ink manufacturer The Sun Chemical Group has invested 13m to buy the UK subsidiary of Toronto-based Envoy Communications Group.

ECG Holdings (UK) is an investment holding company and is home to two packaging-related companies. Watt Gilchrist, headquartered in Leeds, produces graphics for the consumer goods packaging market and works with Asda, Wal-Mart, Tetra Pak and Harrods. London-based Parker Williams is a packaging design and brand development firm whose clients include Sainsbury’s and Disney Stores.

“These additions will greatly enhance our understanding of packaging market trends and customer needs,” said Dr David Hill (pictured), president and CEO of Sun Chemical.

Sun Chemical was particularly keen to purchase the Watt Gilchrist-developed ODIN packaging and digital asset management system.

“Our combined portfolio of products, services and colour management technologies will provide faster design and launch of new package concepts to package goods companies and retailers,” said Paul Bean, managing director of Watt Gilchrist.
