Sun Chemical raises prices in wake of increasing input costs

Packaging companies will have to contend with further price increases as more materials suppliers, including Sun Chemical, try to recover increasing input costs.

The printing inks and pigments producer announced today that it was increasing prices across its European markets by 6% to 12%, depending on product type, in the face of the "challenging environment".

Felipe Mellado, Sun Chemical Europe's corporate vice-president of marketing, said: "Given the rapidity and scale of cost increases, we are forced to implement price increases to cover basic costs that are not expected to drop any time soon."

Sun has followed rival inks supplier Flint Group in raising prices. Flint said last month that it would increase the price of its printing inks to recover the continued escalation in raw material costs.

Meanwhile, Austrian firm Gabriel-Chemie Group has announced a 5-10% increase in the price of plastics masterbatches. It said the price increases were to ensure it could continue to offer customers "the best quality and exceptional service".
