Vegware adopts Natureflex for cutlery set

Vegware is using Innovia Films’ wood pulp-based Natureflex film to flow-wrap its biodegradable cutlery sets.

The cutlery is made from corn and potato starch and using Natureflex means the entire product is home compostable.

Vegware founder Joe Frankel said the fact that the material did not need industrial composting at higher temperatures was an important factor. “The film looks great and can be used in flow-wrap machines. It’s also from a fully sustainable source of wood,” he said.

Natureflex films are certified to European EN13432 and American ASTM D6400 compostability standards and contain 95% bio-based material.

They offer anti-static and oil resistance as well as high gloss and transparency, and are a good barrier to aromas and gases.

Edinburgh-based Vegware produces a range of biodegradable food service disposables such as cornstarch cups and PLA-lined food cartons. It was founded in 2006 and serves the European and North American markets.
