Inspirepac aims to ‘push flexo boundaries’ with £3.8m spend

Printed corrugated specialist inspirepac is aiming to “push the boundaries of flexo” after revealing a £3.8m investment for its Wetherby facility

The Göpfert Evolution high board line machine will print in up to six colours and will feature a rotary die cutter that will allow the machine to run constantly, with job changes taking place ‘on the fly’.

Inspirepac chief executive Chris Marples said that the investment would “future proof the business for the next five years” and would offer FMCG clients a near-litho quality of print from a flexo process.

He said that the machine would offer economical runs as low as 2,500 and would respond to an increasing demand from brand owners for bespoke promotional packaging with quick speed to market.

‘Stretching boundaries’

Marples added that since the company was founded in 2007, Inspirepac, which is part of the Logson Group, had seen significant growth and a market swing from the major brands changing their print process from litho and pre-print towards high-quality flexo print (HQPP).

“This investment will allow inspirepac to continue stretching the boundaries of flexo print,” he said.

The machine will be installed over the Christmas period and is planned to be operational by February 2012.

It will run alongside the site’s existing seven-colour Bobst Masterflex L, purchased three years ago, which already has the high board line facility.

The installation project is being led by managing director Mark Hawkins and plant director Martin Brown.

In addition to in-line die cutting, the inspirepac is planning to use the machine as an offline printer.

Hawkins said: “The machine will be fitted with two camera systems, one for control of print sheet lead edge and the second for colour to colour register which is critical to HQPP.”

Marples added: “These are exciting times for Inspirepac as the business continues to grow and will create further HQPP opportunities in the future.”
