Public face food waste education

The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) plans to educate the public and retailers on the environmental dangers of food waste.

The move comes after a WRAP report, on packaging technologies that could reduce food waste, found that consumers view packaging waste as a greater threat to the environment than food waste.

WRAP hopes supermarkets will help with efforts to educate consumers, and in return will talk to them about how to deploy new technologies.

WRAP special advisor Mark Barthel (pictured) said: “From the report, we are starting to distil the key characteristics that we need to change.”
