MeadWestvaco to close US sites
MeadWestvaco has announced plans to close two plants in the US barely a month after its subsidiary AGI Media Europe said it would discontinue trading in Birmingham.
The US packaging group is to shut its media packaging plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and a healthcare packaging facility in Garner, North Carolina, affecting approximately 240 employees. It will transfer all production to other MeadWestvaco sites in the US this spring.
The firm said the decision had been difficult to make.
However, Tom Bouchard, vice president and general manager, said it was “necessary to strengthen our position for growth and global leadership in key consumer packaging markets”.
MeadWestvaco has operations in 30 countries supplying a range of sectors.
