Forum concludes RFID “still lacks business case”

A business case for RFID has yet to be established, according to many delegates at last month’s RFID Networking Forum in London.

Many of the 350-plus delegates at the forum, which featured discussions on the technology, business case and application of RFID on packaging, said they were attending in case they were forced to implement RFID by a Wal-Mart style mandate.

But most said they were not considering adopting the technology to improve their own supply chain efficiency.

Despite the presentation of successful examples of warehouse and supply chain applications, delegates repeatedly raised concerns about the cost of tags, ensuring 100% read rates, and making tags work on materials such as metal.
