Ciba buys controlling stake in effects business

Ciba Specialty Chemicals, the Swiss colour management firm, has acquired metallic effects company MetalFX.

The Swiss multinational has bought 80 per cent of the UK firm’s shares from managing director Andrew Ainge, who continues to run the business.

Under new ownership, MetalFX will become part of Ciba’s Color Services division. Ainge will work closely with Sonia Megert Marshall, Ciba’s global head of Color Services.

Using Ciba’s technical expertise, Ainge’s plan is to expand the firm’s products and services, including looking at controlling metallic colour on different papers and processes across different locations.

“Ciba Specialty Chemicals’ advanced technology will back up MetalFX,” Ainge said. “We will be expanding the toolbox that enables printers to reproduce colours accurately and to the highest quality. Our aim is to take colour communication way beyond its current boundaries and produce an easy-to-use package for printers worldwide.”
