Bobst targets cigarette trade with new gravure kit

Bobst is targeting printers and converters in the cigarette industry with a new machine launched earlier this year.

The company demonstrated the Lemanic Delta during Tobacco Asia Expo in Hong Kong, and will also show the machine at a customer’s plant in Shenzhen, China, from 20 to 22 June.

Bobst has already sold one machine and has had interest for the June factory presentation from both the Asian and European markets.

The Lemanic Delta prints and converts multi-coloured board with either inline rotary die-cutting for long runs of standard carton sizes, or inline sheeting for high added-value options on short-run applications.

Paul Stoudmann, Bobst’s head of web-fed solutions, said: “The big advantage is the advantage of inline process, with the added value and higher quality of the gravure process enabling printers to differentiate themselves.”

Bobst intends to target printers within the cigarette packaging industry that are printing using sheetfed offset but have always wanted to print gravure. The company also hopes to attract gravure printers that need to update their machinery.

Although Bobst is pushing the machine (pictured) in the cigarette industry, it is also suitable for fast-food cartons and high-value specialised cartons.

For example, the machine can be used to print long-run, standard-size cartons with grease or humidity barriers for the fast food industry.

The Lemanic Delta is a sister machine to the Lemanic Riviera launched at the Drupa 2004 printing exhibition.
