Food expansion for Label Apeel

Label Apeel in Leicester has spent £750,000 on label presses and a management information system to further its expansion into the food sector.

The firm has bought a five-colour Aquaflex, an eight-colour MPS EF300 labels press and a Shuttleworth MIS to support its bid to gain British Retail Consortium Institute of Packaging accreditation.

“The MPS label presses have automatic registration and servo-driven printheads,” said Label Apeel’s managing director Stuart Kellock. “The quality is second-to-none and it provides clear savings on make-ready times.”

The installation of the MIS has allowed the  company to reduce makeready times from two hours to 25 minutes.

Kellock said the company would also be able to reduce the 100m of material it uses during set-up. “I anticipate further material cost savings to be between £10,000–£20,000 a year,” he said.

Label Apeel produces plain and printed self-adhesive labels and swing tickets and has a turnover of £3m.
