Checkpoint unveils NDRF tag system for shoe chain

Checkpoint Systems has provided a new digital radio frequency (NDRF) goods tagging system to European shoe retailer Reno as a first step into radio frequency tagging.

Rollout across Reno’s 700 branches in six countries is to be completed by the end of May to help reduce losses and change the way customers shop. Tags can be integrated into the shoes themselves, so they can be displayed in pairs for customers to choose and try themselves.

Hans-Werner Königs, Reno’s manager of organisation and goods control, said: “From a strategic point of view, we dream of fully automatic goods and date tracking – from the supplier to the branch.

“What’s more, we’d like to make work processes as simple as possible for our staff working in the branches. We believe that RFID is the most suitable system for this. By opting for NDRF we can already set the course for the future.”

Ulrich Schäefer, vice-president and general manager of Checkpoint Systems’ NCE Unit, said: “Reno’s decision for radio-frequency tagging is a further step towards a uniform standard in security technology, not only in Germany.”
