Domino inline tag for box-makers
Domino Printing Sciences has teamed up with an unnamed US corrugated box manufacturer to embed RFID tags during the box-making process.
Simon King, director of Domino’s integrated solutions group, said the firms had developed a technology to embed up to six ultra-high-frequency RFID tags per second during manufacturing.
The tags are embedded blank before being coded later in the packaging supply chain.
King said he expected the process to “become the norm in time” and said pack manufacture was the “natural place” for tags to be embedded.
Domino has not actively promoted the technology but has talked to some European manufacturers.
Meanwhile, Domino is helping pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca to trace its products through the supply chain.
The firm will print unique and random carton numbers, embedded in 2D Data Matrix codes, on item-level drugs cartons at AstraZeneca’s manufacturing plants.
