Ball sales boosted by warm weather
Ball Corporation’s metal packaging business in Europe was aided by good weather on the continent in the first quarter of 2007.
The warm weather fuelled demand for beverage cans, helping Ball’s metal packaging business in Europe and Asia to grow profits by 61% to £22.5m ($45m), on sales up 28% to £192m.
Ball was also aided by an increase in volume in China and less pressure on margins.
The group’s overall profits rose 84% to £40.5m, while sales increased by almost a quarter to £843m.
The figures included a full quarter’s results from acquisitions made in plastics packaging and food and household products packaging last year.
