Unilever to investigate “unknown unknowns” in pack manufacturing

Unilever has asked its design and machinery providers to help it get to know the “unknown unknowns” of successful packaging production.

Andy Cole, director for packaging simplification in Unilever’s laundry category, and Dave Penrith, global packaging and machinery manager Unilever home care, said it wanted to meet providers at Total to help widen the packaging design window and get them involved earlier in the production process.

Penrith, speaking at a Packaging Innovation Seminar yesterday, said: “It’s good to talk outside of specific projects. If you want to talk about this way of working, or other projects, our stand is number 3333.”

Cole, responding to a question about the problems of intellectual property when ideas are discussed outside
of a commissioned project, explained: “We are very careful to steer people away from talking about specific ideas before we are involved in a project. Come and talk to us about what is good for you and your business.”
