Clondalkin arm Boxes LPF finds UK market for barrier cartons

Boxes LPF has launched a range of specialist barrier cartons in the UK in response to increased demand.

The Dutch carton producer, part of Clondalkin’s Specialist Packaging Division, is offering two types of carton that have been available for about 10 years in the Benelux region.

They protect sensitive products such as salt, sugar, coffee and confectionery from moisture, air, light and odours.

The lined carton features an integrated laminated liner, with the inner and outer section filled and sealed in a single production run.

The Peeltop version is laminated with a special barrier foil, which is sealed during the filling process to create a barrier against leakage of powders, oils and other fluids.

Aluminium-coated cartonboard also protects against light penetration for light-sensitive products.

Sales and marketing director Chris Hill said: “We’ve had lots of interest from the UK. The cartons are tamper-evident, which is becoming increasingly important, and there is no risk of spoilage, which is also becoming more useful as more fast and convenience foods enter the market. In addition, they are resistant to wear and tear.”

The cartons are currently manufactured and distributed in Holland, with sales and marketing in the UK. Hill said demand would dictate whether manufacturing would also take place at Boxes Prestige in the UK.
