Stora Enso launches digital DIY design service

Finland-based paper and packaging firm Stora Enso is to launch a new service that will allow customers to design and order digitally printed packaging online.

Users will be able to create their own graphic designs for paper drinking cups and DBS Discbox Slider CD cases when the Stora Enso e-Design site is launched early next year.

Stora Enso says the service will speed up orders and cut artwork and production costs.

A spokeswoman said the development made the most of automated digital printing technology and could be expanded to other forms of packaging in the future.

The new site will also allow customers to create personalised online shops to sell digitally printed products to other businesses and consumers.

"The platform will provide new opportunities for both the packaging industry and brand owners," said Matthieu Wirtz, eBusiness manager at Stora Enso Consumer Boards.

"The solution is also suitable for niche markets, such as event organisers, fan clubs, restaurants, schools and universities."

Meanwhile the company has signed up British communications firm Empirix to test and monitor its new PackAgent website, which tracks products through the supply chain.
