Sun Chemical to release short-run kit at Labelexpo
Sun Chemical will launch the SolarJet UV inkjet printer for short-run labels at next month's Labelexpo in Brussels.
The inks and coatings giant, which developed the printer with US firm Imaging Technology International, said the SolarJet would enable print runs of 10,000 labels to be produced "quickly, cost-effectively and without sacrificing quality" for the pharmaceutical, health and beauty and FMCG markets.
Sun Chemical Digital business manager Stefan Slembrouck said the SolarJet was an "economically viable solution" for short-run labels. It can also print variable data, such as text and barcodes.
"By investing in a digital solution such as SolarJet, printers that have traditionally run a high-volume flexo operation can increase their turnover by offering short-run, quick turnaround jobs that were previously beyond their capabilities," he added.
The printer features the latest Xaar 760 printheads and Sun Chemical's SolarDot pigmented UV inks. Printing speeds are at 25 metres a minute in widths from 53mm to 160mm.
The SolarJet costs around £175,000 and shipments will start in January 2008.
Labelexpo 2007 takes place in Brussels from 26-29 September.
