Stäger signs deal with Clear to extend UK production

Swiss packaging group Stäger aims to expand its presence in the UK after signing a co-operation agreement with Clear Packaging.

Stäger, which specialises in thermoformed and transparent plastic packaging, will install equipment at Clear's Coventry site to enable the production of a wider range of packs, including round containers, drums and cylinders.

Clear Packaging sales and marketing director Neil Farmer said his firm would benefit from being able to tap into Stäger's expertise.

"They have been active in the UK but they want to develop the UK market further," he added.

Stäger has already been selling into the UK market through Different Packaging, a Leicestershire-based agent.

Stäger was founded in 1970 and claims to be the first company in the world to have used PET extrusion, in 1986.

It has a main production unit in Muri, Switzerland, and is also involved in a manufacturing operation in Turkey.

Clear Packaging was formed in September 2000 and produces transparent cartons, sleeves, lids and bases.
