Tesco deploys Clifford's retail-ready wine boxes

Tesco will be the first retailer in the world to introduce Clifford Packaging's new Bottle Buddie range of drop-in wine boxes following successful supply chain trials.

The supermarket will use the retail-ready pack to sell its Tesco's Finest range of Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc, available in store from mid-October.

The pack, which is available in four- or six-bottle options, includes a built-in handle so it can be carried home by consumers.

Clifford Packaging, based in Milton Keynes, has developed the pack so that it can be run on existing packing lines with either hand or automated case erecting.

The company worked with Tesco to carry out transit trials from South Africa to test the pack.

Clifford is also carrying out trials with other UK supermarkets and it is looking to license the pack in wine-producing countries.
