Low costs prompt Swallowfield to open Czech site

Swallowfield, the cosmetics and toiletries packing firm, has opened a facility in the Czech Republic that is "ideally situated" to serve the fast-growing markets of Eastern Europe.

Swallowfield predicts that operating out of Eastern Europe will lead to "significant savings", because increased shipping costs will be offset by reduced salaries, which are approximately a third of the equivalent wage in the UK.

The 5,000 sqm facility in Tabor, 60 miles south of Prague, will employ around 100 staff to fill, finish and package cosmetics, fragrances and other liquid products for the company's clients, including global brands and retailers.

Swallowfield operates two plants in the UK and also has an office in Shanghai, China.

The company provides a variety of services for the cosmetics, personal care and household goods markets, including market research, product testing, and packaging design and sourcing.
