Xerox DocuColor 12
With this colour press, Jeddo Print owner Shashi Manandhar has halved the time taken for short-run work without having to compromise quality
What does the machine do?
It prints short-run monochrome and colour work and is also a monochrome/colour copier.
Why did you choose this particular machine?
I decided to purchase the DocuColor 12 because of the high quality of colour that it produces.
Did you look at any other similar machines?
I looked at the X-press OnDemand.
Why did you make the purchase?
I have already got a two-colour Heidelberg GTO 52, so a quick colour digital machine capable of doing a wide range of short-run jobs, such as colour business cards and flyers, was essential.
What features do you particularly like?
The machine puts out a layer of oil, which gives the print a quality finish.
Is there anything that you dislike?
I wish it was a bit faster.
Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
Tray five takes SRA3 sheet size, but I think the machine would benefit from a deeper tray and a better feed from this particular tray.
How fast is it?
It can print 50 monochrome pages and 12 colour pages per minute at top speed.
How reliable is it?
I’ve found it to be very reliable.
What’s the quality like?
The standard is excellent. It produces colour quality that is very close to litho print.
How easy is it to use?
Very easy.
How much time or money has it saved?
In terms of time, it’s probably saved more than 50% on short-run (500 A3 one-sided) colour documents compared to conventional systems. I’ve also saved money on these short runs, which were previously sent out to Heidelberg DI or a similar output.
Has it won you any new work?
Yes. We’re now producing a lot more short-run jobs, ranging from tickets through to colour flyers, business cards and newsletters.
Would you say that it offers value for money?
I would say so, yes. It is a very good machine for the kind of short-run work that I do.
Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
No.
What about the pre- and after-sale service?
This machine is under Xerox maintenance and service contract.
Who do you think the machine is right for?
It is perfect for any small printer and graphic design studios. Also, advertising agencies and in-house publication departments would benefit from using it.
Under what circumstances would you buy another?
When the situation arises and I have more work, or as a back-up for this one.
CONCLUSION
User’s verdict
Speed 2/5
Quality 5/5
Reliability 4/5
Value for money 5/5
