Gizmo produces closure for extra ingredients
Gizmo Packaging has invented a bottle closure that enables consumers to introduce active ingredients at the time of use, preserving their freshness.
The closure incorporates a miniature pressurised injection-moulded chamber, which holds the active ingredient and protects it from UV light and oxygen exposure.
A concentrate of active ingredient, including colours, flavours, minerals, herbs or concentrates, is released when the closure is opened.
The Gizmo system can be applied to many container shapes and sizes in plastic or glass, and is suitable for still or carbonated base liquids.
Gizmo said the pack could be used in a wide range of industries, including the beverage, DIY, food and healthcare sectors.
Bernard Frutin MBE, the inventor and founder of Gizmo Packaging, established the company, which is based in Renfrew, Scotland, in 2001.
Gizmo said it was in talks with a multinational interested in using the closure in the global beverage market.
RPC, the rigid plastic packaging group, is the preferred supplier of the Gizmo.
RPC Bramlage-Wiko will manufacture the closure on behalf of Gizmo and injection moulding of the plastic components will initially be undertaken at its plant in Lohne, Germany.
