CCL Industries, the Canadian labelling specialist, is selling its ABS Bag-on-Valve business in Ontario for $US9.4m (£4.8m) to dispensing products manufacturer and distributor AptarGroup.

The business is a product line of CCL Container, sold in conjunction with aluminium aerosol containers for applications requiring separation between the propellant and the contents.

CCL will retain the aluminium aerosol can business and AptarGroup will market the dispensing systems separately to customers.

Donald Lang, vice chairman and chief executive of CCL Industries, said: "CCL Container can now focus on its core business as North America's leading producer of impact extruded aluminium aerosols and bottles."

CCL expects a small gain on disposal after incurring restructuring costs associated with the sale.

In Europe, CCL's core business is manufacturing labels, and it has seven locations in the UK.

In February, it bought CD Design in Germany, and in March it acquired Australia-based Clear Image Labels.
