MWV adopts holistic approach

MWV, formerly MeadWestvaco, is promoting a “triple bottom-line” approach at Interpack that guides its customers from consumer research through to manufacture.

This “triple bottom-line” approach, which has been adopted across the entire company, addresses social, economic and environmental issues.

The global company has, for example, assessed the Chinese milk pouch market by studying the cultural differences in how people interact with and use products.

The resulting research allowed the company to develop a “smart solution”, displayed on the stand, that specifically accommodated Chinese preferences.

Visitors to MWV’s stand can also see an example of energy bar primary and secondary packaging that has been designed using this approach.

In this situation, the primary cartonboard pack has been reinforced so that a smaller cartonboard transit pack can be used to replace the existing corrugated pack.

Consequently, 560 of the new cases can fit on pallet compared to 320, therefore fulfilling MWV’s social, environmental and economic fulfillments.

MWV is now looking at using this pack for other applications.
