Stanelco licenses bio-cushion

Stanelco, the sustainable packaging technology specialist, has licensed the design and manufacture of its Frogmat biodegradable cushion packaging to US films producer MonoSol.

Under the licence, MonoSol has exclusive rights to the product in the Americas, and will also be able to market it globally.

The licence has been awarded a year after MonoSol bought almost £500,000 worth of assets of Stanelco's Adept division.

Frogmat is made from a corrugated lattice structure inside a water-soluble pouch that can be recycled in the waste paper stream.

Stanelco said trials in the US had been positive and a commercial launch in North America was due in the second half of 2008.

It admitted, however, that it was too early to speculate on the impact on the company's future financial performance.

Stanelco chief executive Paul Mines said: "It is great news that our time and investment in developing this technology is going to be taken closer to commercialisation."
